OBEDIENCE TO GOD
By Jaira Lalnunpuia Khiangte

I greed you all, in the sweetest name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The chosen topic for my short sermon today is “OBEDIENCE TO GOD”

Before, we meditate upon this theme; let me read some scriptures;
1.    Psalms 119:2 “Happy are those who obey his decrees and search for him with all their hearts.”

2.    Deuteronomy 10:12 “O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good”

If we read the bible, from Genesis to Revelation, the Bible has a lot to say about obedience. In the story of the Ten Commandments, we see just how important the concept of obedience is to God.
Deuteronomy 11:26-28 sums it up like this: "Obey and you will be blessed. Disobey and you will be cursed." In the New Testament, we learn through the example of Jesus Christ that believers are called to a life of obedience.
However, to meditate on the theme obedience, we will look two important areas;
1.    What is obedience?
2.    Reasons why obedience to God is important?

What is obedience?
The general concept of obedience refers to the idea of positioning oneself under someone by submitting to their authority and command. Biblical obedience also refers to “hear God's word and act accordingly." It involves the physical hearing that inspires the hearer and a belief or trust that in turn motivates the hearer to act in accordance with the speaker's desires."

Therefore, biblical obedience to God means to hear, trust, submit and surrender to God and his Word.

Reasons why obedience to God is important?

1.    Jesus Calls Us to Obedience
In Jesus Christ we find the perfect model of obedience. As his disciples, we follow Christ's example as well as his commands. Our motivation for obedience is love: John 14: 15 says – “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

2.    Obedience Is an Act of Worship
The bible tells us that true Christian obedience flows from a heart of gratitude for the grace we have received from the Lord:
Romans 12:1 says, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

3.    God Rewards Obedience
Over and over again we read in the Bible that God blesses and rewards obedience:
In Genesis 22:18, God says,    "And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me." In the same way, we also can see the blessing of obedience in Exodus 19:5 which says, “Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me.”

Therefore, as we see the reasons why obedience is important including the promises made by God, let us try to set a goal to obey the Lord and watch Him work in our life.
May God bless us through this short sharing.

THANKS GIVING PRAYER
By Joseph Lalnunsanga KHiangte

Let us give thanks to the Lord, let us pray…

O Lord our God, who is the source of life and all blessings, the giver of everything we needs;

We thank you for the gift of life: for the breath that sustains our life, for the food of this earth that nurtures our life, for the love of family and friends without which there would be no life.

We thank you for the mystery of your creation: for the beauty that the eye can see, for the joy that the ear may hear, for the unknown that we cannot behold filling the universe with wonder, for the expanse of space that draws us beyond the definitions of our selves.

We thank you for setting us in communities: for families who nurture our becoming, for friends who love us by choice, for companions at our daily activities, who share our burdens and daily tasks, for strangers who welcome us into their midst, for people from different background who call us to grow in understanding, and who lighten our moments with delight, and who offer us hope for the future.

For these and for the all blessings, we give you thanks, eternal, loving God, through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
